Stainless Steel 347H – Material Guide

Stainless Steel 347H – Material Guide

Type 347H is a higher carbon austenitic chromium stainless steel that contains stabilizing elements. 347H steel has excellent resistance to oxidation and corrosion. With high creep strength, 347H stainless steel work best up to 1600 °F.

Different Designation of Grade 347H Stainless Steel:

  • EN numeric designation is 1.4912
  • UNS Designation is S34709
  • Chemical Designation is X7CrNiNb18-10
  • (BS) designation is 347S49

What forms of 347H Stainless Steel are available at Jaydeep Steels?

  • Sheet
  • Plate
  • Bar
  • Pipe & Tube
  • Pipe Fittings (i.e. elbows, tees, stub-ends, returns, caps, crosses, reducers, and pipe nipples)
  • Pipe Flanges (i.e. slip-ons, blinds, weld-necks, lap joints)

What are the characteristics & Features of Stainless Steel 347H

  • Higher resistance and corrosion protection
  • Used for heavy welded equipment when annealing is not possible
  • Good oxidation resistance, on par with most other austenitic stainless steels
  • Higher carbon allows for better high temperature creep properties

Due to Type 347H unique properties, it is used in a variety of application in many of today’s critical industries:

  • Boiler tubes and casings
  • Oil and gas
  • Petroleum
  • Radiant superheater
  • Heat exchanger tubes
  • Cabin heaters
  • Aircraft exhaust stacks and collector rings
  • Pharmaceutical Production
  • Waste Heat Recovery

Along with a higher level of carbon then regular Type 347, Type 347H stainless steel has a unique chemical composition that includes the follow:

Fe balance
Cr 17-20%
Ni 9-13%
C 0.04-0.08%
Mn 0.5-2.0%
S 0.30% max
Si 0.75% max
P 0.03% max
Cb/Ta 1% max
